Beyond California Rolls, much of the world of sushi and sushi prep is off limits to kids (too raw! too challenging to the palate! too sharp!). But the sushi set from the awesome toy company Melissa and Doug allows them to play master sushi chef with none of the food safety and cutlery issues. The set (made of painted wood, like the rest of the Melissa and Doug line of toys) includes sushi pieces, chopsticks and other accoutrements (the sushi pieces attach to each other with velcro; kids can slice them apart with the wooden knife). Amazon’s selling the sushi set for $16.94. My kids have the Melissa and Doug sandwich making set and love it.
