Slough, a little west of London, isn’t famous for a whole lot (aside from a certain John Betjeman poem) but boy does it having a great Gastrokid restaurant.
Tummies has been serving since 1988 and we happened upon it this weekend after a very long day at Legoland with friends.
All the food is good but easily the best part of the menu is the bit that says: "Adult food cooked for children".
Yep, there’s no bad chicken nuggets, lame spaghetti or cardboard pizza.
Instead, Tummies offers the little ones dishes such as Fillets of Pork, Cream & Mustard Sauce with Hand Cut Thick Fries, Linguine Carbonara with smoked bacon, wild mushrooms and garlic cream, Pan-Fried Sea Trout Fillets with basil ratatouille and butter beans or a simple Penne Pasta with "rich homemade plum tomato sauce".
Oh, and the adults eat just as well, with a number of other good choices.
And the only downside – the intimate candle-lit ambiance is useless for assembling the Lego helicopter you’ve bought your son at Legoland and which he insists has to be built right now!
